KP Government Introduces Fuel Conservation Rules for Government Offices

Taiba 2 min read

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department has issued new directives instructing government offices across the province to implement fuel conservation measures amid concerns about possible disruptions in petroleum supply. The new guidelines are aimed at reducing fuel consumption in government operations while ensuring that essential administrative and emergency activities continue without interruption.

According to an official notification released by the department, the measures have been introduced due to the ongoing global crisis and the potential for supply chain disruptions affecting petroleum products. Authorities fear that any interruption in fuel supply could create a challenging situation at the local level, prompting the provincial government to take precautionary steps in advance.

Under the newly issued instructions, all attached departments, formations, and subordinate offices have been directed to ensure the economical use of petroleum products. Government offices must strictly limit fuel consumption to essential official duties, emergency response operations, and unavoidable field activities. Routine tasks that require travel are expected to be minimized in order to conserve available fuel resources.

The notification also places immediate restrictions on non-essential travel, including outstation visits, ceremonial engagements, routine inspections, and other activities that are not considered urgent. These steps are intended to significantly reduce unnecessary fuel usage by government departments.

Government vehicles must now be used exclusively for official duties. The department has also encouraged offices to adopt vehicle pooling wherever possible so that multiple officials can travel together for the same assignment. Additionally, departments have been instructed to avoid deploying multiple vehicles for a single official activity in order to further reduce fuel consumption.

To minimize transportation needs, officials have been advised to conduct internal meetings and inter-departmental discussions through virtual platforms whenever possible. This shift toward online communication is expected to reduce travel requirements while maintaining administrative coordination between departments.

Administrative offices have also been directed to closely monitor and maintain proper records of fuel allocations and government vehicle usage. These records will help ensure that the new conservation measures are being followed and that resources are used responsibly.

The Finance Department has further instructed heads of departments to create awareness among officers and staff about the importance of austerity and responsible use of government resources under the current circumstances.

Despite the introduction of these fuel-saving measures, the department emphasized that the ongoing budget cycle and preparations for the upcoming financial year must continue smoothly without disruption, ensuring that government operations and financial planning remain on track.
