Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR is preparing to finalize a major investment in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector in February, following discussions held at the World Economic Forum in Davos. SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf emphasized that Pakistan is seen as a long-term energy partner due to its expanding energy demand, large consumer market, and ongoing sector reforms aimed at improving efficiency and investment climate.

Najaf highlighted SOCAR’s ongoing LNG collaboration with Pakistan through SOCAR Trading, which operates under a government-to-government framework. This arrangement allows Pakistan to access flexible LNG supplies without take-or-pay obligations, providing both cost efficiency and supply security. The cooperation has already been extended into 2025, reflecting the strength and growth of energy ties between the two countries. The planned investment is expected to deepen strategic energy collaboration, support Pakistan’s energy diversification goals, and enhance the role of Azerbaijan as a key energy partner in South Asia.
