Karachi Implements Official Flour Prices Across the City

The Sindh government has raised flour prices in Karachi by Rs8 per kilogram, bringing the retail price to Rs107 per kilogram, or Rs1,070 for a 10-kilogram bag, according to a notification issued by the Karachi commissioner. The ex-mill price has been set at Rs104 per kilogram, totaling Rs1,040 for a 10-kg bag. Previously, flour was priced at Rs99 per kilogram in December 2025, showing a steady increase over the past months.

Despite the official revision, many retail shops in Karachi continue to sell flour well above government rates. Consumers report paying around Rs125 per kilogram, with 10-kg bags at Rs1,250, while locally milled chakki flour is reportedly priced as high as Rs140 per kilogram in some areas. Residents say the persistent gap between notified and market prices highlights weak enforcement, as flour costs continue to rise unchecked in neighborhood shops. The revised prices are now effective immediately, though enforcement remains a challenge.
