FBR Extends Income Tax Return Filing Deadline to October 31, 2025, After Requests from Business Community

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially extended the deadline for filing income tax returns by an additional 15 days, setting the new deadline as October 31, 2025. This marks the second extension in recent weeks. The original deadline of September 30 was first moved to October 15, and now further extended in response to repeated requests from the business community and the Tax Bar Association.

The FBR cited strong demand from stakeholders as the main reason for the extension, aiming to facilitate more taxpayers in meeting their obligations without penalties. So far, approximately 400,000 individuals have submitted their income tax returns. To streamline the process, the FBR continues to offer a simplified online tax return form available through its official website.

Alongside the extension, the FBR has prepared to initiate audits of 100,000 filed income tax returns starting from October 1. These audits will primarily focus on returns filed by members of the business community, with FBR officials indicating a detailed and thorough review process.

This decision has been welcomed by various trade and professional bodies who had consistently advocated for more time to comply with filing requirements, citing operational and documentation challenges. The government’s move is seen as a practical step to encourage broader compliance while maintaining momentum in revenue collection efforts.
