Pakistan’s mobile manufacturing sector has reached a significant milestone, producing 22.78 million mobile phones locally between January and September 2025, according to official figures. Out of the total, 11.92 million were smartphones, while 10.86 million were 2G handsets, reflecting the continued demand for both advanced and entry-level devices. In September alone, local assemblers produced 3.01 million units, highlighting consistent growth in domestic production capacity. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed that smartphones now account for nearly 70% of all active mobile devices across the country, indicating a strong shift toward digital adoption and connectivity. Despite robust local manufacturing, mobile phone imports increased by more than 103% in dollar terms during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025–26, underscoring rising consumer demand and the rapid expansion of Pakistan’s telecom and digital economy. Industry experts note that this surge in both local production and imports demonstrates Pakistan’s growing role as a key player in South Asia’s mobile technology market. The government’s supportive policies, coupled with increasing smartphone penetration and 4G/5G expansion, continue to attract investment and innovation in the mobile manufacturing ecosystem. Go back |
