Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that students in private educational institutions across the province will now be eligible to receive free laptops under the government’s ongoing scheme, with 10,000 devices set to be distributed. This initiative forms part of a broader agenda aimed at modernizing education and improving access to technology for students.

Declaring 2025 as the “year of initiatives,” the minister highlighted several major reforms in the Punjab education sector. These include the removal of two million ghost enrollments, rationalization of 26,000 teaching positions, reforms in the syllabus and examination systems, and the introduction of e-marking to streamline assessment processes.

The government has also focused on early childhood education, establishing dedicated classrooms in 10,000 schools and implementing a nutrition program that benefits approximately 1.1 million students. Additionally, 268 schools were upgraded to enhance facilities and learning environments. Measures were taken to address harassment cases in schools, and merit-based appointments of principals and vice chancellors were successfully completed, strengthening governance and accountability in the education system.

Overall, these steps reflect Punjab’s commitment to improving education quality, expanding access to resources, and ensuring that students across both public and private institutions benefit from modern learning opportunities.
