No — Punjab Has Not Ended the Student Attendance Requirement

A false notification is circulating on social media claiming that public and private colleges and universities in Punjab will no longer enforce attendance requirements for students. The document, dated January 17, 2026, allegedly instructs institutions not to block students from admissions or examinations due to low attendance and forbids attendance-related fines or penalties. It also mentions strict legal and administrative action for non-compliance and is signed by a Section Officer named Babar Khan Gondal.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has clarified that this notification is fake and warned the public to exercise caution. HEC emphasized that the misinformation is spreading widely on social media and urged students, faculty, and educational institutions not to act on unverified documents. The commission advised everyone to rely only on official government websites and verified HEC social media accounts for authentic updates regarding attendance policies and academic regulations.
