The Punjab government has moved to establish the Punjab Film Development Authority to promote and strengthen the film industry across the province. For this purpose, the Punjab Film Development Authority Act 2025 has been presented in the Punjab Assembly, marking a significant step toward reviving and institutionalizing film and media production in the region.

Under the proposed authority, filmmaking, television dramas, and documentary production will be actively supported and facilitated through an organized regulatory and development framework. The authority will introduce a comprehensive film policy along with clear rules, regulations, and licensing procedures to ensure transparency and efficiency within the industry.

The plan also includes providing filmmakers with essential facilities and permits through a one-window operation to simplify administrative processes. Special incentives are expected to be offered to attract both local and foreign investment, aiming to boost production activity and economic growth within the creative sector.

In addition, the government plans to develop modern film studios, establish a dedicated film city, and set up advanced post-production facilities to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for creative projects. To nurture emerging talent, the authority will also establish film schools and training programs to develop a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs.

Financial support mechanisms, including funding, grants, and subsidies, will be introduced to assist filmmakers and encourage quality productions. The bill has been referred to the relevant committee, which is expected to submit its report within two months. After committee approval, the legislation will be presented for passage in the Punjab Assembly and will then require final assent from the Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan.
