Pakistan has marked a major medical breakthrough by successfully performing its first scar-free kidney stone removal using the Non-Touch Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) technique. The procedure was led by Dr. Shabbir Hussain Chaudhry, who utilized advanced flexible ureteroscopes and high-precision laser technology to eliminate kidney stones without any direct instrument contact with the urinary tract.
The surgery was completed without general anesthesia, pre-stenting, or fluoroscopy, making it a safer and entirely radiation-free approach for patients. This method also avoids external incisions, ensuring faster recovery, minimal discomfort, and complete stone clearance.
The successful introduction of the Non-Touch RIRS technique marks an important advancement for urology and endoscopic treatment in Pakistan, opening the door to safer, more efficient, and patient-friendly kidney stone management options in the country.
