Following reports of Nipah virus cases in India, the Director General of Health Sindh has issued a precautionary advisory, instructing health authorities across the province to remain alert and strengthen preventive measures. The Sindh Health Department stated that the regional situation is being closely monitored and all public and private hospitals have been directed to stay on high alert. Medical facilities have also been instructed to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health to ensure preparedness. Health officials have confirmed that no case of the Nipah virus has been reported in Pakistan so far. However, authorities have emphasized the need for vigilance due to the virus’s highly infectious and deadly nature. The advisory describes the Nipah virus as a zoonotic disease that can spread from animals to humans. Early symptoms include fever, headache, cough, body aches, and vomiting. Medical experts warn that in severe cases, the infection can lead to acute respiratory illness and encephalitis, a serious inflammation of the brain. The Sindh Health Department has urged hospitals to focus on early detection, timely reporting, and strict implementation of safety protocols to prevent any potential outbreak and ensure public health protection across the province.
