The Sindh government has announced plans to upgrade 300 treatment and prevention centres under the Rabies Control Program Sindh (RCPS) to enhance rabies management across the province.
Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, stated that these centres will be strategically located every 10 to 15 kilometers to ensure easy access for patients. The upgrades will include improved facilities, standardized treatment protocols, and better service delivery.
Medicines and vaccines for rabies treatment will be procured, and staff will receive specialized training to enhance their technical and clinical skills. The program will also launch a province-wide awareness campaign emphasizing timely treatment of the disease.
Rabies is a preventable viral infection transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected dog or animal. It attacks the central nervous system, causing severe neurological symptoms, and can be fatal if left untreated.
This initiative reflects Sindh’s proactive approach to improving healthcare infrastructure and safeguarding public health against rabies.
