The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has implemented new measures to include earnings from social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram within the tax system.
According to details released on Wednesday, the FBR’s framework requires individuals earning income from digital content and social media activities to pay withholding tax. The new procedure outlines specific regulations for both calculating and collecting tax on these earnings.
A special process has been established to handle payments received via these platforms, covering creators and influencers who monetize their content. Tax experts noted that advance tax payments are to be made quarterly under these rules.
The FBR has also introduced a dedicated mechanism for recording social media income, aligning it with Pakistan’s larger tax framework. This move means that all revenues earned from major digital platforms will now fall under taxable income as per the new rules.
In addition, the FBR has directed that such income must be declared annually in a special section of the Income Tax Return for each tax year.
