Applications are now open for the fully funded CERN Summer Student Programme 2026 in Switzerland, offering international undergraduate and master’s students the chance to gain hands-on experience in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics. This prestigious program at the European Organization for Nuclear Research allows students to work on advanced technical projects under the supervision of experimental or engineering teams, attend lectures by world-leading experts, participate in workshops, and visit CERN facilities to gain practical knowledge in cutting-edge scientific research.
The summer program runs for 8 to 13 weeks, providing a contract to work on a technical project while receiving mentorship from top physicists, engineers, and researchers. Students will also benefit from a comprehensive lecture program covering physics, computing, and engineering topics, along with IT sessions organized by Openlab. The program is designed to enhance professional skills, scientific understanding, teamwork, and international exposure, helping students stand out in their future careers.
The fellowship is fully funded, including a tax-free stipend of 93 CHF per day, travel allowance, health insurance, and assistance with accommodation near the CERN site. This program offers an opportunity to gain professional experience, develop a global network, and build mentorship relationships with top scientists.
Eligibility criteria include enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, completion of at least six semesters (three academic years), and continued student registration during the program. Applicants must not have previously worked at CERN for more than three months or participated as a CERN Summer Student. Proficiency in English is required, with knowledge of French considered an advantage. Students of all nationalities are eligible.
Applicants must submit a CV, recent academic transcript, and an academic reference letter through the online CERN application portal. Accurate information and complete documentation are required to be considered.
The deadline to apply for the CERN Summer Student Programme 2026 is January 26, 2026. This fully funded opportunity provides students with world-class research experience, professional development, and international exposure at one of the leading scientific organizations in the world.
