The UNITAR Online Master Program Traineeship 2025-26 in Switzerland offers an outstanding opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain professional experience within a United Nations environment. Organized by the Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, this traineeship is designed to help participants enhance their understanding of the UN system, develop practical skills, and prepare for international careers. The program supports UNITAR’s online Master programs, launched in collaboration with prestigious academic institutions worldwide.

The traineeship lasts four to six months and takes place at UNITAR headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Trainees will work under the guidance of the Programme Officer, supporting the implementation and coordination of the Online Master in International Affairs and Diplomacy as well as related academic programs. Responsibilities include designing, managing, and adapting training content to ensure high-quality, engaging courses, assisting with admissions, communications, outreach activities, and research to support new programs and partnerships. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in a professional, multicultural UN setting while working independently and collaborating with international staff.

Although the placement is unpaid, trainees receive a monthly lump-sum of 900 CHF to cover transportation and miscellaneous costs. The program begins in December 2025 or January 2026, with exact dates arranged with selected candidates.

Eligibility criteria include being currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate program in fields such as international relations, law, education, political science, languages, history, or related areas, or having graduated within the last two years. Applicants must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with knowledge of French or Spanish considered an advantage. Analytical and research skills, administrative proficiency, computer literacy including e-learning tools, and an interest in training methodologies and instructional design are required.

The traineeship provides practical experience in a UN environment, mentorship from experts, the opportunity to contribute to e-learning courses, workshops, and webinars, and a chance to enhance skills for working in international and multicultural settings. Participants gain valuable exposure to UN operations, strengthen their resumes, and develop strategies to translate vision into actionable goals.

Applications must be submitted online through UNITAR’s e-recruitment system, accompanied by a motivation letter. The application deadline for the UNITAR Online Master Program Traineeship 2025-26 is November 30, 2025.
