The Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad is inviting applications for the position of Head of Research (SPPS-III) on a contractual basis. This role is targeted at seasoned professionals with expertise in international trade and economic analysis. The selected candidate will oversee the preparation and analysis of trade and economic data for Pakistan and global markets, produce tailored research reports, trade monitoring updates, newsletters, and dashboards, and manage research tasks across various Wings of the Ministry. Responsibilities also include conducting background research to support export strategy and policy development and tracking key trade indicators to provide actionable insights.

Eligible candidates must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in International Economics, International Trade, or a related discipline from an HEC-recognized local or international university. A minimum of seven years of professional experience in research and analysis of international trade and economic data is required, along with proven leadership experience in research teams, preferably in research institutes. Applicants should demonstrate strong skills in trade data preparation, economic research, and analysis, be well-versed in national and global economic developments, and have an in-depth understanding of Pakistan’s trade context. Excellent oral and written communication, drafting, decision-making, and team management abilities are mandatory.

Applicants must be able to conduct comprehensive research, prepare reports and dashboards, analyze micro and macroeconomic data, and manage tasks assigned by different Wings of the Ministry. They should be fully conversant with trade-related matters in Pakistan and able to place findings in a global comparative framework.

The appointment will follow the Special Professional Pay Scale (SPPS) policy and will be on a contract basis for an initial period of two years, extendable for another two years based on performance.
