PTA Confirms Toll-Free Calls in Pakistan Are Truly Free

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has announced that calls to toll-free numbers (0800-XXXXX) will now be completely free for mobile users across Pakistan. Previously, toll-free calls were only free for fixed-line users, while mobile subscribers were charged despite the numbers being labeled as toll-free.

The PTA said the decision was made in the interest of consumer protection and user convenience. The authority took notice of the disparity between mobile and fixed-line services and initiated steps to ensure uniform treatment for all users.

Consultations were held with key stakeholders, including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, National Telecommunication Corporation, local loop operators, and cellular mobile operators. Following these discussions, all parties agreed to extend toll-free calling to mobile users.

The PTA stated that the move reflects its commitment to fair and user-friendly telecommunication services and aims to improve access to support lines and essential services for consumers nationwide.
