Ninety Pakistani universities have been included in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, according to the latest edition published by global higher-education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The figure was confirmed by filtering the official rankings results by Pakistan, reflecting the country's growing footprint in the annual assessment of Asian institutions.

The rankings evaluate universities across several indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research performance, faculty resources and international engagement. The combination of these metrics is designed to capture both the teaching standing and the research output of each institution.

The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) leads the Pakistani cohort, followed by Quaid-i-Azam University and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). COMSATS University Islamabad and the University of the Punjab complete the list of Pakistan's five highest-ranked institutions.

Pakistan also recorded two placements among the ten highest-ranked universities in Southern Asia. NUST took second place in the subregional table, behind the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, while Quaid-i-Azam University secured tenth position, becoming the second Pakistani institution to enter the Southern Asian top ten. The subregional rankings cover universities in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Iran and the Maldives.

At the top of the continental table, the University of Hong Kong retained its position as Asia's highest-ranked university. Peking University placed second, Tsinghua University climbed from ninth to third, and City University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong completed the top five.

The inclusion of 90 Pakistani institutions offers a broad measure of the country's participation in Asian higher education, spanning both large public universities and specialised institutions. The results are likely to be watched closely by students, academics and policymakers assessing the international standing of Pakistan's university sector.
