Apple Eyes Revenue Boost by Hosting Third-Party AI Agents on App Store
Apple may allow third-party AI agents on its App Store and take a cut of subscription revenue, as revealed on its latest earnings call. No official marketplace yet, but executives see opportunities in AI-driven upgrades and partnerships.

Apple could soon generate additional revenue by letting third-party AI agents offer their services through its ecosystem, according to comments made during the company's latest earnings call. Chief Financial Officer Kevan Parekh hinted that artificial intelligence could open new monetization avenues for the company, though he stopped short of announcing a dedicated marketplace for AI agents.
AI agents are software tools that can perform tasks on behalf of users, such as organizing information, conducting research, managing schedules, or completing activities across applications. As more companies develop these tools, Apple might distribute them via the App Store and collect commissions on subscriptions or purchases, similar to its existing model for paid apps. This could create a fresh revenue stream as demand for AI services continues to grow.
Investors are now speculating whether Apple could leverage the App Store to become a key distributor of third-party AI agents, potentially earning a share of the revenue they generate. For instance, users might download an AI assistant from another company and pay a subscription fee for advanced features, with Apple taking a cut of eligible transactions. The company already earns commissions from in-app purchases and subscriptions, so extending that model to AI agents would be a natural progression.
During the call, Parekh noted that Apple sees opportunities for AI to encourage customers to upgrade their devices while also creating revenue through third-party applications, partnerships, and its own products. However, he did not elaborate on how such arrangements would work or whether Apple is planning a dedicated AI agent marketplace. The idea remains speculative and has not been confirmed as a product announcement.
The potential move aligns with Apple's broader strategy of expanding services revenue, which has become an increasingly important part of its business. By hosting third-party AI agents, Apple could position itself at the center of the growing AI ecosystem, much as it did with mobile apps through the App Store. But for now, the company is keeping details under wraps, leaving investors and developers to speculate about the next chapter in AI distribution.
