Hub Power Company (HUBCO) intends to start local production of BYD vehicles in Pakistan in December 2026, with the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) set to become the first model assembled in the country, according to a company management briefing cited in a brokerage report.

Arif Habib Limited (AHL) noted that HUBCO's electric mobility venture is gaining momentum. Cumulative BYD sales in Pakistan have crossed 10,000 units, and the business posted a profit of roughly Rs. 1.5 billion in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, of which HUBCO's share was about Rs. 780 million.

The brokerage said management expects growth to accelerate once local completely knocked-down (CKD) production begins, targeted for December 2026, with the Sealion 6 PHEV leading the lineup. HUBCO is also reviewing additional BYD models, particularly in the higher-volume B and C segments, with the Sealion 6, B8 and B5 expected around the end of calendar year 2026.

The plans reflect HUBCO's widening investment in the automotive sector through its partnership with BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer. BYD entered Pakistan's passenger vehicle market in March 2024 through an arrangement with Mega Conglomerate Pvt. Ltd., later formalised via HUBCO's wholly owned subsidiary Hub Power Holdings and its associated company Mega Motor Company (MMC).

MMC handles the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of BYD-branded passenger vehicles in Pakistan. HUBCO has also signalled interest in developing charging infrastructure, drawing on its experience in power generation.

The BYD and MMC plant near Karachi is expected to initially produce 25,000 vehicles annually on a double-shift basis, with room to scale capacity to 50,000 units per year as demand grows.
