Spain's Ambassador to Pakistan, Carlos Aragon, has urged both countries to prioritise the launch of direct flights, arguing that stronger air connectivity could substantially increase bilateral trade. Speaking to members of the business community at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), the envoy said improved aviation links would make it easier for traders and investors on both sides to do business.

The ambassador also pledged to streamline visa processing, with business applicants set to receive priority so that entrepreneurs can secure travel documents without unnecessary delays. The commitment is seen as a practical step toward removing hurdles that have long slowed commercial exchanges between the two nations.

Aragon identified women's empowerment, climate change mitigation and the circular economy as key priorities for Spain, noting that each area offers scope for cooperation with Pakistan. He said Spain was working with the United Nations to advance women's empowerment, and pointed to a UNICEF-funded project in Punjab that is providing training and practical skills to young girls. The first phase of the project is expected to conclude by the end of the current year, with a second phase to follow.

On the circular economy, the ambassador said Spain introduced a national strategy four to five years ago. Although the two countries have no formal agreement in this area yet, he noted that some Spanish firms already supply textile recycling machinery to Pakistan. He also said Spain could assist Pakistan in developing its renewable energy sector.

Aragon highlighted Spanish universities as a valuable opportunity for Pakistani students, saying graduates of these institutions could help strengthen Pakistan's international image. He assured participants that the Spanish embassy would support closer ties between Pakistani students and universities in Spain.

Earlier, FCCI President Arif Ehsan Malik welcomed the ambassador and pointed to substantial untapped potential in trade between Pakistan and Spain. The ambassador expressed confidence that direct air connections, easier visa procedures, women's empowerment, the circular economy, textile recycling and higher education could collectively deepen bilateral relations.
