The Economic Coordination Committee of Pakistan’s federal Cabinet has approved the immediate release of Rs. 19 billion for the Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package 2026. The meeting included Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, and senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory authorities.
The committee reviewed a funding summary from the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, which requested Rs. 25 billion for the Ramzan Relief Package. The Finance Division noted that Rs. 19 billion had already been allocated in the current fiscal year’s budget, with any additional requirements to be released as needed. Accordingly, the ECC approved the immediate disbursement of Rs. 19 billion to ensure timely commencement of payments. Additional funding requests will be assessed based on evolving needs and fiscal capacity.
The committee also examined proposed operational expenditures and emphasized the need for a detailed cost breakdown, including payments to partner financial institutions and outreach activities. In-principle approval was granted for operational expenses of Rs. 1 billion, subject to submission of comprehensive details to the Finance Division to ensure compliance with financial rules and alignment with actual requirements.
To facilitate early disbursement, the ECC regularized steps already undertaken using re-appropriated funds. All expenditures will adhere to Pakistan’s fiscal commitments, and any unutilized funds will be returned following established procedures. The committee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing timely and dignified assistance to vulnerable segments of society during Ramzan while maintaining fiscal discipline, transparency, and strong oversight.
The Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package 2026 aims to deliver targeted financial support to low-income households during the holy month. Beneficiary selection will utilize data from the National Socio-Economic Registry to ensure transparency and accountability. The package includes one-time cash assistance for identified households and enhancements to existing social protection programs, with funds transferred securely through formal banking and digital channels for efficient delivery.
