Karachi is preparing for a major transformation in public transportation, with the government set to roll out double-decker buses and a new fleet of electric buses next week. This move forms a key part of Sindh’s ambitious plan to modernize the city’s transport infrastructure and provide safer, greener, and more efficient travel options for commuters.

The provincial transport authorities have confirmed that the new buses will operate on prominent city routes, complementing the existing People’s Bus Service network. The service expansion will include more buses, increased frequency, and additional routes to cover underserved areas, making daily commuting smoother for thousands of residents.

In addition to double-decker buses, the city will also introduce modern electric vehicles (EVs), aligning with Sindh’s environmental and sustainability goals. The EV initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote eco-friendly transport solutions across Karachi. Plans are also underway to launch electric taxis, offering another clean transport alternative for residents and visitors.

Sindh’s government continues to prioritize inclusivity in transportation. The women’s scooty training program is ongoing, empowering women to travel independently and safely, while future projects aim to enhance mobility options for all segments of society.

Significant progress is also being reported on Karachi’s major Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors. Infrastructure improvements, dedicated bus lanes, and modernized bus stops are part of the broader strategy to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city. Authorities have promised continued investment in public transport, with further upgrades and services expected in the coming months.

Officials believe these developments will not only improve commuting experiences but also encourage residents to shift from private vehicles to public transport, easing traffic pressure and contributing to cleaner air in Karachi.

With the introduction of double-decker and electric buses, Karachi is taking a major step toward modern, sustainable, and inclusive public transportation, setting a benchmark for other cities in Pakistan.
