PPP Calls for Removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori Amid Growing Political Tensions

Pakistan Peoples Party has called for the removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, urging the government to honor the governorship formula agreed upon before the coalition was formed. According to Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javeed, the understanding between PPP and PML-N was that each party would appoint two governors. While PPP has already received its two slots, PML-N has not yet appointed its governor in Sindh, where the current officeholder is an MQM nominee.

Javeed said the situation has become politically problematic because the governor, despite holding a constitutional and supposedly neutral position, recently attended an MQM press conference targeting PPP. She questioned why the governor was participating in political campaigns against her party and argued that the agreed formula needs to be implemented to restore balance.

Addressing claims of a half-term arrangement in Balochistan, Javeed strongly denied that any such formula existed. She said the coalition had never agreed to a 2.5-year power-sharing plan for the province and clarified that Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sarfraz Bugti’s government remains stable. Her remarks followed a statement from PML-N Senator Mir Dostain Khan Domki, who had suggested that PPP and PML-N would switch the chief minister position midway through the term.

Javeed reiterated that she had not heard of any such agreement and said the provincial assembly faced no threat of upheaval.

Responding to criticism from MQM leaders, she advised the party to focus on strengthening municipal governance rather than attacking PPP. She said Sindh currently has the strongest and most empowered local government structure in the country. If MQM believed Punjab’s local government framework was superior, she added, they should openly acknowledge that Punjab does not even have a functioning mayoral system.

Her remarks highlight growing strains between coalition partners and underline PPP’s insistence that political agreements be honored to maintain stability across provinces.
