Sindh has expanded its e-challan system beyond Karachi to include Sukkur and Hyderabad as part of a province-wide effort to strengthen traffic management and improve road safety. Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar confirmed that driving licence checks are also being carried out alongside the automated traffic enforcement system. He acknowledged that computer system errors may occur but emphasized that the government’s primary focus is on enhancing traffic regulation and questioned criticism directed at the initiative.

In Karachi alone, traffic authorities reported that more than Rs 710 million were collected from e-challans in a single month, with over 93,000 violations recorded. The majority of offences, 57,541 cases, involved drivers not wearing seat belts, resulting in fines exceeding Rs 570 million. Motorcyclists were fined heavily as well, with 22,257 cases of riding without helmets, generating penalties of over Rs 111 million.

Overspeeding by dumpers, trailers, and water tankers is closely monitored using installed tracker systems, leading to 1,188 challans. Private drivers were issued 2,699 challans for overspeeding and 3,102 for running red lights. Other violations included 1,278 challans for fancy number plates and 1,178 for tinted windows, together exceeding Rs 29.4 million in fines. Additional offences included 611 challans for stop-line violations and 426 for wrong-way driving.

Traffic authorities urged citizens to comply with road safety rules, highlighting that adherence not only protects drivers but also ensures the safety of all road users. The expansion of the e-challan system to Sukkur and Hyderabad is expected to further improve traffic discipline across Sindh.
