Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that Punjab authorities conducted an extensive 24-hour traffic crackdown, during which 40,000 drivers were fined for violating traffic rules and 630 public transport vehicles were flagged for being overloaded. She highlighted that the operation was part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety, reduce accidents, and ensure that all vehicles, especially public transport, comply with legal load limits. The crackdown involved coordination between traffic police and provincial monitoring teams, with a focus on key urban areas and highways where traffic violations are most frequent. Overloaded vehicles, which pose significant risks to passengers and other road users, were identified and action was taken to either fine operators or prevent them from continuing their journeys until compliance was ensured. Drivers violating speed limits, failing to follow road signs, or committing other traffic offenses were penalized under the province’s traffic regulations. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that such operations are crucial for cultivating a culture of road discipline and protecting citizens from accidents. She added that the provincial authorities remain committed to implementing stricter enforcement measures and leveraging technology, such as monitoring cameras and e-challan systems, to ensure ongoing compliance and improve overall road safety in Punjab.
