QUETTA: The Balochistan government has announced a strict crackdown on the illegal use of gas compressors in Quetta, aimed at addressing declining gas pressure issues in the city. The decision came after a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Quetta, Capt (retd) Mehrullah Badini, which was attended by Assistant Commissioners and a representative from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The authorities decided that immediate action would be taken against individuals involved in the sale, installation, and use of compressors that artificially boost gas pressure. The use of these devices has become more prevalent during the winter season, when complaints of low gas pressure rise sharply, affecting residential consumers the most. The misuse of compressors not only disrupts the gas supply for regular households but also poses safety risks. By drawing gas from pipelines at an accelerated rate, compressors can deprive neighbors of sufficient gas flow, making it difficult for families to perform daily activities such as cooking meals or heating their homes, especially in areas experiencing freezing temperatures. Gas compressors are electrical devices designed to rapidly draw gas from pipelines and channel it to burners, geysers, or heaters. While intended to enhance pressure in specific setups, illegal use interferes with the city’s overall gas distribution network. The Balochistan administration has emphasized that strict monitoring and enforcement will be carried out to ensure compliance, warning that violators will face legal action. Authorities hope this crackdown will stabilize gas supply during the peak winter months and ensure fair access for all residents. Go back |
