The Punjab government is accelerating its solar schools initiative, with Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman announcing that nearly 1,000 public schools are on track to be powered entirely by solar energy. The project aims to provide clean, reliable electricity, ensuring that students can continue learning without disruptions caused by power shortages.

Speaking at the Brain of Lahore academic event, the minister emphasized that the initiative aligns with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to enhance the education system across the province. He noted that Punjab is undertaking its largest-ever school renovation drive, upgrading thousands of classrooms to create safer and more conducive learning environments.

Highlighting key projects, he mentioned the 100 CM Schools of Lahore initiative, which will establish modern, solar-powered schools offering high-quality education to children from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the 500 Girls Schools Upgradation Programme aims to expand access to secondary and higher education for girls, helping bridge the gender gap in education.

The government is also establishing 100 new Education Development Units to improve teacher performance, enhance monitoring, and ensure accountability. To address staffing shortages, the minister announced the recruitment of 10,000 teachers, filling long-standing vacancies across the province.

Digital tablets will be increasingly used for school inspections, allowing real-time tracking of performance and greater transparency in the monitoring process. Beyond academics, the government plans to promote sports, provide financial assistance, and reward talented students to encourage holistic development.

Minister Shuja-ur-Rehman praised the Brain of Lahore event for fostering critical thinking, creativity, and confidence among students, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in preparing young learners for future challenges.
