Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan announced in the Senate that the federal government plans to launch an air ambulance service along all national highways starting next year. The initiative is designed to provide rapid first aid and expedite the transportation of accident victims to hospitals, aiming to significantly reduce fatalities caused by delayed medical care. During the Question Hour, the minister stressed that safeguarding citizens’ lives is a top priority for the government and highlighted the urgent need to improve Pakistan’s road infrastructure, particularly in high-risk areas. Abdul Aleem Khan noted that 44 percent of the National Highway Authority’s network lies in Balochistan, underlining the province’s strategic importance and the federal responsibility to modernize and expand its roads. In a related development, he stated that petroleum levy funds have been redirected to accelerate construction of the Pakistan Expressway, stretching from Karachi to Chaman. The Frontier Works Organization has been awarded the contract for the project, which is expected to be completed within two years. This dual focus on emergency medical response and highway development reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety, improving infrastructure, and ensuring faster access to medical care for citizens traveling across the country.
