Petrol prices in Pakistan are set to increase by Rs2.40 per litre starting December 15, 2025, for the upcoming fortnight, according to official sources. The government will announce the finalized fuel prices on the same day, taking into account international oil market trends and preliminary estimates for various petroleum products. The Petroleum Division has proposed raising the profit margins for oil marketing companies (OMCs) and petroleum dealers in line with inflation, which is expected to push petrol and diesel prices higher. A summary prepared by the Petroleum Division suggests increasing the profit margin from Rs1.10 to Rs1.28 per litre. Currently, OMCs earn Rs7.87 per litre on petrol and diesel, while dealers receive a commission of Rs8.64 per litre, making the combined margin Rs16.51 per litre for consumers. Any further increases will require approval from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and subsequent ratification by the federal cabinet. Negotiations on the margin adjustments were held on December 3, 2025, between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, OMC owners, and the dealers’ association. During these discussions, the Petroleum Division assured stakeholders that a revision in profit margins would be implemented. This upcoming increase follows a recent reduction in petroleum prices earlier in December. On December 1, 2025, petrol prices were lowered by Rs2 per litre, bringing the rate to Rs263.45 per litre, while high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs4.79 per litre to Rs279.65. The latest proposed hike is expected to partially offset the previous relief and adjust prices according to current market conditions. Go back |
