ISLAMABAD: A well-known car enthusiast from Islamabad, recognized for his social media presence featuring a vast collection of luxury and performance vehicles, is now under investigation by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) over potential discrepancies between his apparent lifestyle and declared income. According to sources, the FBR’s Lifestyle Monitoring Unit (LMU), part of the Intelligence and Investigation Wing, flagged the individual after analyzing open-source information. A field office of the FBR has reportedly initiated a formal inquiry into the taxpayer’s financial affairs. The individual owns a range of high-end vehicles, including a Chevrolet Camaro SS, GMC Sierra Denali, Mercedes-Benz S400h, Bentley Mulsanne, Jeep Wrangler, Ford F-150 Tonka Edition, BMW 1-Series Coupe, Jaguar XK 4.2, Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray, Polaris Slingshot SL 2.4, and Honda S660. The cumulative market value of these vehicles is estimated to exceed Rs. 600 million. The taxpayer has built a significant digital presence on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, regularly sharing content related to garage tours, luxury imports, vehicle modifications, and appearances at automotive events. This online footprint, officials said, reflects ongoing high-value expenditures that appear inconsistent with his declared income. Preliminary analysis comparing his visible lifestyle with income tax declarations from recent years suggests a significant mismatch. While the individual’s public activities indicate continuous high-level spending, his reported income, assets, and expenses do not align with the scale of acquisitions observed, sources added. Officials stated that the FBR may conduct a detailed audit covering tax years 2020 to 2025 to investigate potential undeclared business income and determine the difference between reported income and actual expenditures. The inquiry underscores the FBR’s focus on lifestyle audits to ensure compliance with tax laws. Go back |
