Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed provincial authorities to develop well-designed green belts in major commercial areas and along key roads across Punjab as part of a wide-ranging urban beautification drive aimed at improving the visual appeal and livability of cities.

According to official details, a total of 132 beautification schemes with an estimated cost of Rs16.9 billion are being implemented across 39 districts of the province. These projects are scheduled for completion between February and May and are part of the government’s broader plan to upgrade public spaces and enhance the urban environment.

Major cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi are witnessing multiple ongoing and completed beautification initiatives. The projects include the development and restoration of green belts, landscaping of medians and roadsides, installation of plants and trees, and improvement of overall streetscape design in busy markets and high-traffic areas.

Alongside greenery, the chief minister has instructed authorities to address long-standing civic issues that detract from city aesthetics and public safety. These include the repair and covering of open manholes, removal of garbage, rehabilitation of damaged green belts, and correction of improper or deteriorated paint on public infrastructure.

Officials have been directed to ensure that the beautification work is carried out with high standards of quality and sustainability, while maintaining cleanliness and regular upkeep. The initiative aims not only to enhance the appearance of urban centers but also to create cleaner, safer and more pleasant spaces for residents, shoppers and commuters across Punjab.
