ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to roll out a massive digital learning initiative, distributing 700,000 Google Chromebooks to students nationwide under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, announced Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan on Friday. Speaking at the launch event, Rana Mashhood highlighted that the initiative aims to enhance digital education, providing students with modern tools to compete at both national and global levels. He described the youth as Pakistan’s “greatest asset”, emphasizing that technology-driven education is key to unlocking their full potential. The Chromebooks will be provided to students across schools, colleges, and universities. The devices are expected to enable access to online learning platforms, updated academic resources, and educational software, supporting both research and creative learning. The distribution will be implemented in phases, ensuring transparency and fair allocation based on each institution’s readiness and needs. A national monitoring system will track usage and learning outcomes to maximize the impact of both classroom and remote learning. Rana Mashhood also noted that the programme is designed to bridge the digital divide, particularly between urban and rural areas. Students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will also benefit from the initiative. He further mentioned that growing confidence among overseas Pakistanis is driving investment in education and skills development, creating new jobs and opportunities in emerging sectors. Concluding his remarks, Mashhood said the Chromebook Programme reflects the government’s long-term commitment to modernizing education and building a digitally empowered future for Pakistan’s youth. This initiative represents one of the largest government-led digital education efforts in Pakistan, reinforcing the country’s focus on technology, innovation, and youth development. Go back |
