The Sindh government has announced plans to implement e-challans within the Sindh Food Authority, following the successful digital model already applied in traffic management. The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the enforcement of food safety regulations across the province. During a meeting between Sindh’s Minister for Food, Mehboob-uz-Zaman, and PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson Faryal Talpur, officials provided detailed briefings on online registration, complaint management, and the new digital challan system. The minister emphasized that digitization will allow citizens to access services more efficiently while ensuring greater transparency in food authority operations. He also updated Talpur on recent measures against substandard food and briefed her on the department’s veterinary stock policy. Earlier in 2025, the Sindh Food Authority conducted a high-profile raid on a prominent Karachi Five-Star Hotel chain near PID, uncovering significant food safety violations. Authorities seized 25 kilograms of expired meat, outdated buttercream, and other substandard food items. The inspection revealed severe hygiene lapses in the kitchen and washing areas, highlighting potential public health risks. The hotel chain was found to have repeatedly violated basic food safety protocols, prompting the Sindh Food Authority to take legal action by filing a case in the South Civil Judge’s court. The e-challan system is expected to strengthen regulatory enforcement, reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses, and ensure stricter adherence to safety standards across the province. Go back |
