The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a major Rs. 9 billion project to upgrade Murree Road, aiming to improve traffic flow and modernize the city’s infrastructure. The initiative includes two key components: the construction of new service lanes between Liaquat Bagh and Chandni Chowk and the rehabilitation of the main Murree Road from Saddar Flashman’s to Faizabad. RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza stated that the widened corridor will help reduce congestion and make the stretch signal-free from Marrir Chowk to Faizabad, significantly easing daily commuting for residents and commuters. Surveys for land acquisition are already underway, with a substantial portion of the allocated funds earmarked for purchasing the necessary land. The second component of the project focuses on rehabilitating the main Murree Road, including re-carpeting sections of the road for the first time since 2014. Funding requests for this part of the project have been submitted to the Punjab government as part of Rawalpindi’s upcoming mega development package. Once completed, the upgraded Murree Road is expected to enhance connectivity, improve traffic safety, and support the city’s broader urban development goals. Go back |
