The Karachi administration has imposed a temporary two-month ban on the daytime movement of dumpers and other heavy vehicles across the city in an effort to curb traffic congestion and reduce the rising number of road accidents. According to an official notification issued by the city administration, the entry and movement of heavy traffic within Karachi’s limits will remain prohibited from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The restriction has been enforced under existing traffic and public safety regulations and will remain in effect until further notice. Authorities said the decision was taken in response to increasing complaints from citizens regarding traffic jams, road damage, and fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles during peak hours. The ban is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, improving road safety, and protecting commuters, particularly during busy daytime hours. To manage logistics and prevent disruption to essential transport, the administration has also announced designated alternative routes for heavy vehicles permitted to operate during restricted hours. Vehicles entering from the Super Highway will be diverted towards the New Karachi Industrial Area, while those coming from the National Highway will be directed to routes leading to Godam Chowrangi and Yunus Chowrangi. Additional approved routes include Dawood Chowrangi to Jam Sadiq Bridge, as well as the Northern Bypass towards Paracha Chowk and Siemens Chowrangi. Traffic police and relevant authorities have been instructed to strictly enforce the ban and ensure that heavy vehicles adhere to the approved routes. Officials warned that violations of the restriction would result in legal action, including fines and possible seizure of vehicles. The administration has urged transporters and logistics companies to adjust their schedules accordingly and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The move is part of broader efforts by the Karachi administration to improve traffic management, reduce accident rates, and enhance public safety on the city’s roads. Go back |
