The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast the first spell of winter rainfall in Karachi on December 30, bringing a change in weather conditions after a prolonged dry period. According to the Met Office, a system of westerly winds is expected to influence the city’s weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, leading to a slight drop in temperatures and an increase in cold intensity, particularly during the early morning and night hours.

The Met Office said the westerly wave will begin affecting the upper parts of the country from December 28 and gradually move southward. As a result, parts of Balochistan are likely to receive rainfall on December 29, while Karachi may experience light rain or drizzle a day later. The system is also expected to enhance chilly conditions, with colder winds making the weather feel more frosty than usual for the coastal city.

Overall, most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain cold and dry during this period. Northern regions may see partly cloudy skies, while fog formation is likely during the morning and night hours in Punjab and upper Sindh, which could affect visibility on roads and highways. Central and southern areas of Balochistan are also expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light precipitation in some locations.

The Met Office has advised residents to take precautions against cold weather conditions, especially during late-night and early-morning hours, and to stay updated with weather advisories as the system progresses across the country.
