ISLAMABAD: Electricity and fuel prices in Pakistan are set to see reductions in the coming days, bringing relief to consumers nationwide. Under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism, electricity rates are expected to drop by 72 paisa per unit, pending approval by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The authority will review a plea submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) regarding the reduction.

In November, DISCOs received 7.813 billion units of electricity at an average cost of Rs 6.16 per unit. Generation during the month comprised 39.16% hydropower, 9.34% local coal, 5.06% imported coal, 8.44% gas, 8.64% imported LNG, and 25.23% nuclear fuel, according to CPPA data.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices are also expected to fall starting January 1, 2026. Petrol is likely to decrease by Rs 10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may drop by Rs 8.59 per litre. Light diesel oil (LDO) and kerosene oil are also expected to see reductions of Rs 6.62 and Rs 8.92 per litre, respectively. Following these adjustments, petrol prices may fall from Rs 263.09 to Rs 252.85 per litre, and HSD from Rs 267.80 to Rs 259.21 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will submit its price recommendations to the Petroleum Division on December 31. After receiving approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Petroleum Division will officially announce the new fuel rates.
