Karachi Experiences Sharp Cold Spell as Temperatures Drop Amid Icy Winds from Balochistan

Karachi is experiencing a surge in cold weather as icy winds from Balochistan sweep into the city, according to the Meteorological Department. Temperatures are expected to drop to single digits over the weekend, with today’s current temperature recorded at 11°C and a maximum of 22–23°C. Northeasterly winds are blowing at 11 km/h, with humidity at 44 percent.

The Met Office also reported that Karachi’s air quality remains unhealthy, although the city is ranked ninth among Pakistan’s most polluted urban areas. Across the country, cold and dry weather is expected, with very cold conditions in hilly regions over the next twelve hours. Moderate to dense fog may persist in Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while frost could appear in isolated areas of Potohar and Kashmir during the morning.

Morning temperatures in major cities include Islamabad and Peshawar at 3°C, Lahore 9°C, Karachi 11°C, Quetta –3°C, Gilgit –4°C, Murree 0°C, and Muzaffarabad 4°C.

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, very cold and dry conditions are forecast for Srinagar, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula, while Jammu will experience cold and foggy weather. Morning temperatures recorded are Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramula at –3°C, Anantnag and Shopian at –2°C, Leh –9°C, and Jammu 6°C.
