How to Change CNIC Photo Through NADRA Pak-ID Mobile App in Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Database and Registration Authority has launched a new digital service that enables Pakistani citizens to update or change the photograph on their Computerized National Identity Card directly through the Pak ID mobile application. This digital facility eliminates the need to visit a NADRA registration centre, making CNIC management faster and more convenient for users across Pakistan.

Citizens can now update their CNIC photo by logging into their Pak ID account via the mobile app or web portal. NADRA confirmed the service in response to public queries on social media, clarifying that the entire process can be completed online from home. To update the CNIC photograph, users need to sign in to their Pak ID account, select the “Update Card” option, and follow the on-screen instructions to submit a photo change request. The new photograph undergoes standard verification before being approved and reflected on the identity card.

NADRA has provided detailed guidelines to ensure that photographs submitted through the app meet official requirements. Users are advised to follow instructions carefully to avoid delays or rejection. During photo capture, applicants should use the front or back camera, ensure the face is evenly lit without shadows, and keep hair away from the eyes for clear visibility. The background must be plain white with no objects or people, and glasses or any obstructions should be removed. Proper distance and lighting are essential to capture clear facial features, and the face must remain within the circular frame until the capture process is complete.

Men are allowed to wear a cap or turban as long as the full face is visible, while women may wear a hijab provided the face and chin are clearly shown. NADRA also advises applicants to remain calm and steady during photo capture for accurate results.

This digital CNIC photo update feature is part of NADRA’s broader effort to expand online identity services, reduce congestion at registration centres, save time, and improve service delivery. By enabling remote updates through the Pak ID mobile application, the authority aims to enhance user convenience and encourage the adoption of secure digital identity solutions across Pakistan.
