Punjab has expanded its green public transport initiative with the launch of electric bus services in Bahawalpur as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Transport Vision 2030. The new service is aimed at promoting environmentally friendly urban mobility while improving access to affordable public transport within the city. The electric buses in Bahawalpur will operate on several routes, including Dera Bakha to 13 Solang, Talha Town to Bhatta No. 1 and Alina Hospital, Lodhran Entrance Gate to the Cattle Market, and Al-Raheem Town to Goth Lashkar. Under the programme, students and senior citizens will be able to travel free of charge, making the service more inclusive and accessible. The Bahawalpur rollout is part of a broader provincial plan to expand electric bus services beyond Lahore. The Punjab government has previously stated that preparations are underway in multiple districts, with electric bus fleets already delivered to cities such as Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur, signalling a wider push toward sustainable public transport across the province.
