The Punjab government has decided to outsource its Clinics on Wheels project, transferring management and operations to the private sector. The Health Department has officially initiated the process, inviting private entities to apply by 26 January 2026. Under the plan, 791 Clinics on Wheels units and 590 rural ambulances will be operated through private sector partnerships to enhance efficiency and service delivery. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir stated that the initiative aims to bring healthcare facilities directly to residents, particularly in underserved rural areas, and strengthen the overall healthcare system. Since its launch in May last year by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the project’s 200 mobile clinics have already served four million people across the province. Additionally, the Punjab government has announced plans to establish advanced cardiology facilities in eight cities, including Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Murree, and Layyah, further improving access to specialized healthcare services.
