Punjab Launches Pakistan’s First Green Policing Unit with Electric Patrol Vehicles to Combat Pollution

Punjab has established Pakistan’s first Green Policing Unit, deploying electric patrol vehicles to lower fuel consumption and reduce carbon emissions amid worsening winter smog. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore, the unit will initially operate in the provincial capital and gradually expand to other districts.

The electric vehicles, produced by China’s BYD, feature advanced surveillance, speed detection, and communication systems. Officials highlight that the initiative will significantly cut fuel expenses and emissions, promote cleaner air, and enhance governance in one of the country’s most pollution-affected areas.
