Following the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Safe City has introduced a specialized mental health counselling service to support individuals experiencing stress, hopelessness, or suicidal thoughts. The service is integrated with the Punjab Emergency Helpline 15, allowing callers to press 7 to connect directly with trained psychologists for immediate assistance.

The helpline also offers conference call support, enabling citizens to receive professional guidance from mental health experts in real time. According to Punjab Safe City officials, timely intervention through the service has proven effective in saving lives. In 2025, the helpline received 2,327 calls related to mental health and suicidal tendencies, of which 2,269 individuals were provided prompt counselling, achieving a reported success rate of 98 percent.

Demographic data from the calls indicates that 56 percent of distress calls were from men, while 44 percent came from women, highlighting the widespread need for accessible mental health services across all groups. The initiative demonstrates Punjab’s commitment to raising mental health awareness, providing timely support to citizens in crisis, and integrating psychological wellbeing into public safety frameworks.
