The National Computer Emergency Response Team of Pakistan and global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s national cybersecurity framework through coordinated cooperation. The agreement focuses on improving cyber threat detection, prevention, and mitigation while enhancing overall cyber resilience across the country. Under the partnership, both organizations will collaborate on training and awareness programs to improve operational readiness within government institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society.

The MoU also emphasizes capacity development to help build a skilled cybersecurity workforce aligned with national and international standards. A key component of the collaboration is the timely sharing of actionable cyber threat intelligence with relevant stakeholders to better protect citizens, businesses, and government infrastructure from evolving cyber risks.

As part of the agreement, PKCERT and Kaspersky will cooperate in multiple areas, including cybersecurity legislation and regulation, incident detection and response, prevention and mitigation strategies, education, research and development, and professional exchanges. The partnership includes the exchange of technical expertise, threat intelligence, and data feeds related to cyberattacks and digital threats affecting Pakistan.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Haider Abbas, Director General of the National CERT, Government of Pakistan, and Rashed Al Momani, General Manager for the Middle East and Pakistan at Kaspersky, in the presence of Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky and Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Dr. Haider Abbas noted that while information and communication technologies are essential for socio-economic growth, they also introduce risks such as cyber espionage, ransomware, data breaches, attacks on critical infrastructure, financial disruption, and disinformation. He described the partnership as a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity defenses.

Rashed Al Momani said that secure digital development depends on strong collaboration between public institutions and private sector experts, adding that Kaspersky’s global experience with computer emergency response teams and international organizations will support Pakistan’s efforts toward a secure and resilient digital transformation.
