The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior approved the Islamabad Senior Citizenship Bill 2025 on Tuesday, aiming to provide benefits for elderly residents of the capital.

Under the legislation, senior citizens will receive a 25 percent discount on selected government and private services, as reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan.

MNA Sharmila Farooqi, who presented the bill, explained that residents aged 60 and above can access these benefits using their National Identity Cards, eliminating the need for a separate senior citizen card.

During the committee meeting, MNA Nabeel Gabol suggested coordination with NADRA, noting that some senior citizens may have unclear fingerprints. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that if the program proves successful in Islamabad, it could be expanded nationwide.
