The Punjab Inspector General of Police has directed authorities to strictly enforce the code of conduct for Basant 2026 celebrations across Punjab, emphasizing public safety and full compliance with existing laws. IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said that only registered kite sellers will be permitted to sell officially approved kites and thread. He instructed police officials to ensure implementation of government standard operating procedures and closely monitor all kite-selling activities throughout the province. He warned that strict action will be taken against aerial firing, the display of weapons, obscene behavior, or any form of immoral activity during the festivities. The police chief stressed that there will be zero tolerance for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act anywhere in Punjab. In a related development, a high-level meeting regarding the safe organization of Basant 2026 was held under the chairmanship of CCPO Lahore. The session reviewed multiple security arrangements aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the event. Owners of approved rooftops were directed to submit security bonds to guarantee compliance with official safety guidelines. CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddiq Kaimiana stated that rooftop gatherings must strictly follow approved capacity limits and no additional individuals will be allowed beyond the permitted number. He added that strict enforcement of kite flying laws is essential to prevent accidents and maintain order during Basant. Authorities also announced that from February 1, motorcycles without safety rods will not be allowed on the roads. Special teams have been formed to monitor compliance using both human intelligence and modern surveillance technology. Legal action will be taken against violations of the Punjab Sound System Act, illegal kite flying, and the use of metallic or dangerous threads. Police officials reiterated that enforcement will be carried out without exception to ensure public safety during Basant 2026 celebrations. Go back |
