Pakistan has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for a three-year term starting from 1 January 2026, following a strong show of support from the international community. The country received 178 votes in the UN General Assembly, securing its seat with a significant majority. This marks another milestone in Pakistan’s engagement with multilateral institutions and its ongoing role in global human rights dialogue.

The election reflects confidence in Pakistan’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at both national and international levels. As a member of the Human Rights Council, Pakistan will participate in shaping global human rights standards, contributing to discussions on critical issues, and supporting the implementation of human rights obligations worldwide.

This new term provides Pakistan with an opportunity to highlight its perspectives on rights-related challenges and work collaboratively with other member states to address pressing global concerns through dialogue, cooperation, and reform.
