Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has disclosed that Pakistan has incurred losses exceeding $130 billion over the past decade as a result of devastating climate-related disasters. Addressing an international climate conference, he emphasized that Pakistan, despite contributing less than one percent to global carbon emissions, ranks among the countries most severely affected by climate change.
The Prime Minister called on the global community to fulfill its climate finance pledges, urging developed nations to assist Pakistan in strengthening climate resilience through sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy initiatives, and adaptive technologies. He stressed that equitable climate action is essential to support vulnerable nations disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing recovery and adaptation measures following the catastrophic 2022 floods, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. He noted that international cooperation, technology transfer, and financing are vital to ensure long-term environmental stability and economic recovery for climate-affected regions.
