Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the restoration of new gas connections for domestic consumers, a significant move aimed at ensuring affordable and reliable energy access for households across Pakistan. Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the decision comes in direct response to long-standing public demand and reflects the government’s commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, in a video message, reaffirmed that the initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to promote public welfare and strengthen energy infrastructure. He highlighted that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) achieved a profit of Rs29 billion in the last fiscal year — a performance that allows greater investment in service expansion and modernization.

To ensure effective implementation, the Ministry of Petroleum has established dedicated Project Management Offices (PMOs) within both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL). These offices will monitor project progress, address consumer concerns, and maintain transparency throughout the rollout of new connections.

Applicants who have already paid their demand notes will be able to complete their applications by submitting the differential amount and the required security fee. Additionally, an online application system is being developed to make the process more efficient, transparent, and accessible for all consumers.

This decision represents a major policy shift after years of restrictions on new gas connections and is expected to provide relief to thousands of households awaiting access. By combining transparency, accountability, and technological innovation, the government aims to ensure equitable energy distribution and support its vision of a more connected and energy-secure Pakistan.
