The Punjab Chief Minister has approved a major revision of traffic fines across the province to strengthen road discipline and encourage safer driving practices. Under the updated traffic policy, penalties for violations have been substantially increased, targeting recurring offenders and reckless drivers. Motorcyclists will now be fined Rs. 2,000 per offense, while the maximum fine for serious traffic violations has been raised to Rs. 20,000. According to the traffic police, penalties that previously ranged between Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 have been significantly revised to align with the new enforcement structure. Drivers of vehicles with engines exceeding 2000cc will face a Rs. 20,000 fine for overspeeding, reflecting a stricter stance against high-risk driving. Similarly, violations such as running a red light, overloading, or driving in the wrong direction will now incur fines of up to Rs. 15,000. Authorities emphasize that the revised penalties aim to reduce accidents, promote adherence to road safety regulations, and ensure smoother traffic flow throughout Punjab. Go back |
